    Kansas (pop: 2,744,687) is a true Midwestern state and "The Sunflower State" aptly gets its name from the Kansas River. The geographic center of the 48 contiguous states is located in Kansas. The state, lying in the great central plain of the United States, has a generally flat or undulating surface, and on a large scale is almost perfectly flat.

    The main agriculture of the state is cattle - second only to Texas, sheep, wheat, sorghum, soybeans, cotton, hogs, corn, and salt. The industries are mainly transportation equipment, commercial and private aircraft, food processing, publishing, chemical products, machinery, apparel, petroleum and mining.

    Kansas is one of the most productive agricultural states, leading the nation in wheat production.

    The capital city is Topeka and the largest city, Wichita.
